## Description

Dragonfly Tea reached 1M UK packs sold across all SKUs since launch. The Organic Vanilla Chai is the single biggest seller, followed by the Pure Peppermint and Earl Grey Rooibos. Founded by Eelco Heinen, who started Dragonfly because he couldn't find a decent organic chai in the UK.

1 million packs across UK retail and DTC is the SME tea-brand inflection point. Below it, you are managing the brand as a side-job alongside a day-job. Above it, the brand can sustain a small staff, dedicated marketing, and the kind of supplier conversations that only happen when you actually order pallets at a time. Dragonfly hit the threshold without an outside investor and without a multinational acquisition. Rare for a UK herbal tea founded in the 1990s.
Eelco Heinen started Dragonfly in 1998 because he could not find a decent organic chai in the UK. He grew up in continental Europe where organic-tea ranges were already mature, and the UK shelf in the late 1990s ran twenty years behind. The first Dragonfly Chai was blended for him personally. The brand sold the first commercial run direct to independent natural-food shops, founder-on-the-road style. That is how most UK food-and-drink brands of that vintage were built.
The range has grown to more than two dozen SKUs, all organic, all caffeine-aware (some explicitly caffeine-free, some with the caffeine content printed on pack). Pure Peppermint is one of the best peppermint teas on a UK shelf because they use a European farmer with consistent quality rather than the bulk Egyptian mint that dominates supermarket peppermint blends. The Earl Grey Rooibos is one of the brand's most interesting: rooibos base, real bergamot, no caffeine.
We carry a wide chunk of the Dragonfly range, which makes them one of our largest brand families by line count. The reasons are the ones above: independent ownership, organic certification across the range, a genuine founder story, and the cup actually delivers. 1M packs is the brand reaching the size where it gets harder to source authentically. So far Dragonfly has not let go of either side of that tension.
